Course overview

The aim of this course is to prepare students for leadership roles in health (nationally and internationally); specifically to lead in a multi- stakeholder context and cope responsibly with social leadership challenges. Students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of leadership, explore what it means to be an effective and responsible leader and develop advanced leadership competencies. Leadership in a health service context; Leadership decision making; Transformational leadership; Leadership roles and styles; Leadership vision; Leadership development; Self leadership.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically examine leadership theories and understand multi-level leadership.
  • Critically analyse the roles and responsibilities of leaders.
  • Critically examine leadership decision making in a multi-stakeholder context.
  • Explore different approaches towards responsible leadership and become aware of your own preferences and style.
  • Develop a mindful and responsible approach to leadership.
