Course overview
The aim of this course is to advance students' knowledge of ethical theories and approaches and analytical capability in examining public health research, policy and practice issues. Philosophical perspectives on ethics. Ethical issues for the health professional in clinical practice, research and management. Health professionals in society.
Course learning outcomes
- To apply contemporary ethical theory to real world public health practices
- Develop ethical reasoning skills (including analysis, integration of evidence, and formulation of ethical argument) to resolve ethical issues in public health practice, policies and programmes
- Link real world practice with theory to develop an understanding of core perspectives and concepts in public health ethics
- Enhance students capacity to analyse and make informed decisions about ethical problems of public importance
