Course overview

This course will develop an understanding of epidemiological principles and methods and including managing and analysing health data using a common statistical package. Descriptive epidemiology; analytical epidemiology; measures of association; epidemiological study design; health data sources; data management; disease risk; causation and bias; descriptive and inferential statistics; data analysis.

Course learning outcomes

  • Discuss the key principles and methods in the discipline of epidemiology.
  • Access, manage, analyse and summarise epidemiological data.
  • Critically review and discuss strengths and limitations of specific epidemiological designs and methods.
