Course overview
This course provides students with a broad understanding of the major physiological systems of the human body, including the structure and function of major organ systems, the relationship between cell/tissue structure and their function, and the importance of homeostasis in these processes. This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the relationship between structure and function in the human body. This relationship will be explored by drawing on examples across the differing levels of organisation (e.g. cell, tissue, organ and organ system). Students will explore how organs and organ systems interact to maintain homeostasis. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation knowledge of human physiology and be able to apply this knowledge to common real-world scenarios.
Course learning outcomes
- Develop a range of skills and strategies suited to learning physiology
- Describe physiological concepts and principles that explain the function of the human body
- Explain the importance of maintaining homeostasis for the functioning of physiological systems
- Explain the impact of changes to physiological variables on the function of the human body
