Course overview

The aim of this course is to study the influences on typical human development across the lifespan with emphasis on the impact on occupational performance and engagement. Models of lifelong human development; developmentalist terminology; physical growth and physiological changes across the lifespan; influences on pre- and post-natal growth and motor development; psychosocial and cognitive development and its influence across the lifespan; exploring typical development on occupational participation and engagement, contexts, client factors, performance skills and performance patterns.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the foundational characteristics and principles of human growth, and development.
  • Define factors which impact on an individual's choice and participation in occupations across the lifespan.
  • Analyse changes in human development via influences of heredity/person, environment demands and occupational demands.
  • Describe environmental factors that can impact on stages of development across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
