Course overview
This course is an opportunity to explore in greater depth the history of the family. Students shall read widely on the key issues in the historiography, including family relationships, family diversity, emotion, migration, and globalisation, and will investigate the sources and methodologies available to historians exploring this topic. Key issues will include debates around how changing modes of society and economy are mediated through and shape families. Students can tailor their research interests geographically and temporally, through their research and reading, allowing access to a diverse range of global histories. The course provides a useful foundation for further research in this area, as well as important information about contemporary family relationships.
