Course overview

This foundational course will introduce students to the role and power of history in shaping the world we live in today. The legacies of the past are apparent everywhere in the world around us: in our expressions of contemporary culture, in our political debates and social lives, and in the challenges that face our societies. In this course students will learn the skills of an historian in understanding how to interpret the historical forces that explain the world we occupy and the legacies of the past in the present.

  • Technological transformations and social transformations
  • Conflict and human rights in modern history
  • Environmental change and human impact
