Course overview
In this course students will investigate infant, child and adolescent health from clinical, epidemiological and social perspectives. Topics will include parenting, social and emotional development, vaccination, non-communicable conditions and mental health.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain key aspects of infant, child and adolescent health from clinical, epidemiological and social perspectives
- Explain how these diseases, conditions or disorders can be prevented or managed, and identify relevant gaps in knowledge
- Critically review and reflect on underlying reasons for differences in occurrence of health conditions across childhood and adolescence between population groups
- Critique and propose strategies to reduce inequalities in child and adolescent health
- Locate, evaluate and synthesise evidence related to health in childhood and adolescence
- Discuss scientific information about health across childhood and adolescence clearly and concisely in spoken and written English
- Work effectively as an individual and in groups in the pursuit of scientific knowledge about health across childhood and adolescence
