Course overview

This course aims to develop learners’ skills and knowledge to explore principles and practice of drawing the human figure and develop drawing accuracy and interpretive abilities. The course builds learners’ knowledge and skills in life drawing by fostering a variety of approaches to observing, analysing and drawing the human figure while reflecting on their own and others’ life drawing practice. Students in this course develop observational drawing, use a range of drawing mediums, and employ conceptual and technical processes relevant to the field.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate drawing and observational skills to develop coherent, original drawn forms of the human figure
  • Apply various drawing techniques to develop original drawings of the human figure
  • Demonstrate competence in using a variety of mediums and processes to produce drawings
  • Develop original critical reflection and academic referencing skills to analyse representations of the figurative and articulate student’s own drawing practice
