Course overview

Design involves a range of different intelligences and approaches to thinking. This course explored creative thinking methods, alongside inclusive and empathic approaches with hands-on design skills used across design disciplines. It will introduce philosophical, historical, and ideological approaches to reflective and creative thinking in the design process. This will require students to reflect on their approaches to creative thinking and approaches to real world complexity, incorporating their own disciplinary practices into their own approach to the design process.

Course learning outcomes

  • Develop an awareness of reframing design problems for creative practice
  • Apply creative thinking, methods, and processes in resolving a range of design problems
  • Evaluate theories and ideas about thinking for design practice
