Course overview

In this course, students will learn the background science and application skills in geographic information systems with a special emphasis on environmental management.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate proficiency in using ArcGIS for spatial data preparation, analysis and visualisation
  • Demonstrate proficiency in vector and raster processing
  • Interrogate how airborne and spaceborne imaging sensors can provide spatial information for environmental management
  • Quantitatively describe the spatial variability of the biophysical environment
  • Demonstrate the use of GIS for independent, critical, and creative environmental research
