Course overview
This course equips students with the skills to design and optimise water supply systems including consideration for water hammer effects in pipelines. Students will also learn to design efficient stormwater drainage systems that address real-world challenges in urban water infrastructure. Through hands-on experience and collaborative group projects, students will use industry-standard tools such as DRAINS, EPANet, Optimiser, and Hytran to develop practical solutions.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply a variety of criteria to optimise the performance of water supply systems
- Develop effective designs for conventional stormwater drainage systems that address urban infrastructure challenges and comply with ARR and industry standards.
- Gain proficiency in using software tools such as DRAINS, EPANet, Optimiser, and Hytran for the design and analysis of water supply and stormwater management systems.
- Evaluate the performance of water supply and stormwater systems through simulations and scenario analysis, considering both technical and sustainability aspects.
- Work effectively in teams to complete a design project, applying learned concepts to develop solutions for real-world water management problems in an urban context.
- Develop laboratory skills to analyse pipeline systems
