Course overview

To equip students with the skills, practical experience and industry engagement needed to design optimised water supply systems and efficient urban stormwater Management systems, using industry-standard tools and sustainable design principles

  • Introduction urban stormwater management
  • DRAINS modelling for Urban drainage system design
  • Water Supply Systems

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply a variety of criteria to optimise the performance of water supply systems
  • Develop effective designs for conventional stormwater drainage systems that address urban infrastructure challenges and comply with ARR and industry standards.
  • Gain proficiency in using software tools such as DRAINS, EPANet, Optimiser, and Hytran for the design and analysis of water supply and stormwater management systems.
  • Evaluate the performance of water supply and stormwater systems through simulations and scenario analysis, considering both technical and sustainability aspects.
  • Work effectively in teams to complete a design project, applying learned concepts to develop solutions for real-world water management problems in an urban context.
  • Develop laboratory skills to analyse pipeline systems
