Course overview

This course aims to equip learners with the ability to identify, quantitatively analyse and evaluate environmental and climate risks for a range of natural and engineered systems.

  • Foundations Of Environmental And Climate Risk
  • Data Analysis And Statistical Methods
  • Risk Modelling Techniques

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the major categories, causes and consequences of environmental and climate risks
  • Describe how uncertainty arises in environmental and climate systems, including demonstrated understanding of the concepts of chaos and emergence
  • Describe the framework, principles, key concepts and the process of risk management
  • Apply and can communicate the outcome of probability theory and statistical methods to environmental and climate risk analysis contexts
  • Apply graphical approaches to describe the causal structure of an environmental or climate risk problem, and use this to undertake a quantitative risk assessment to evaluate potential solutions
