Course overview
This course aims to introduce materials for possible future energy systems, including energy storage by battery/supercapacitor, energy conversion/generation by electrocatalysis and photocatalysis. The course will cover both the chemistry part and the materials design part of new energy-related materials. The course should highlight the significance of energy materials engineering in modern society and contextualise the selection of energy materials on the basis of their characteristics and end use applications.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of theories for photocatalysis, electrocatalysis and batteries
- Demonstrate knowledge of materials desigin, synthesis and modification for energy applications
- Demonstrate knowledge of advanced characterisation techniques in photocatalysis, electrocatalysis and battery fields
- Understand the origin of the high-performance for photocatalysts, electrocatalysts and battery
- Apply various materials engineering techniques to optimize the performances for energy applications
