Course overview

This course builds on learners' previous knowledge of materials to provide them with advanced knowledge on engineering composite materials, teach the principles of design in composites including metal-matrix composites to solve real world problems, equip learners with modern techniques for fabrication of composites, and deeply explore and appreciate various applications. This course will equip learners with the skills needed for the application and performance evaluation of advanced engineering materials and composite structures in design and manufacture of industry products.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of theory, properties and principles of engineering composites
  • Apply fundamentals and principles in the design, analysis and manufacture of composites
  • Select and use a range of reinforcing agents and manufacturing techniques for composites
  • Design, analyse and manufacture high-end composite structures for engineering applications
