Course overview

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to analyse, design, and implement efficient and effective industrial production systems. On completion of this course, students will develop the ability to assess the performance of different production systems, select, design and implement new procedures to improve productivity of existing production systems, and build strong competency on applying advanced methodologies such as group technology, cellular manufacturing technique, and computer integrated manufacturing systems. Students will address challenges and opportunities in modern manufacturing environments and contribute to improving overall operational performance.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse manufacturing performance metrics to evaluate the efficiency of different production systems performance of production systems
  • Select and evaluate an appropriate production system for a given set of constraints and requirements
  • Develop a systematic approach for design and implementation of production system
  • Evaluate and apply appropriate group technology, flexible manufacturing systems, and computer integrated manufacturing systems
  • Demonstrate proficient competency of an effective online simulation tool to design and implement integrated production system with a practical case study
