Course overview

This course acts as an authentic industry led capstone design experience, students will need to consolidate knowledge from across the program to undertake a sustainable structural engineering design from the conceptual phase through to the production of design drawings. Projects will be offered in each of the subdisciplines structures, environment and geotech.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate the fluid application of engineering techniques by scoping and subsequently preparing detailed design calculations to Australian design standards
  • Complete detailed design documentation including drawings to the standard expected for each subdiscipline
  • Demonstrate orderly management of self and professional conduct by managing time effectively and behaving in a professional manner in relationships with clients, industrial mentors and other stakeholders involved in the project
  • Function as an effective team member by earning the trust and confidence of colleagues through competent and timely completion of tasks, recognising the diversity of the team members and respect for alternative viewpoints
