Course overview
This course extends conceptual and practical understanding from the introductory course - ENGIX501 Principles of Submarine Design - by expanding on a number and complexity of submarine systems, exploring specific technology areas in submarine systems design, as well as submarine building techniques and maintenance aspects (logistic engineering).
- Submarine Design Fundamentals and Naval Architecture
- Platform Systems Integration & Human Factors
- Combat Systems and Lifecycle Support
Course learning outcomes
- Differentiate current classes of submarines and their design philosophies
- Explain the design-to-build approach in the context of submarines and their systems
- Examine the different platform and combat systems in a submarine
- Evaluate a proposed optimal pathway for transitioning from an existing submarine baseline to a new specified capability
- Assess the design feasibility of a submarine and its seaworthiness
- Develop a submarine concept design from top level requirements
