Course overview

This course introduces the analytical approach to formulating and solving engineering problems. It contains key concepts and techniques in linear algebra and differential equations, which provides the foundation to solving a wide range of engineering problems. Example cases from numerous disciplines of engineering are used to illustrate the method and allow students to develop analytical skills. At the completion of the course, students will be able to use appropriate mathematical techniques to formulate and solve problems involving linear dynamic systems.

  • Linear Systems Of Equations
  • Differential Equations

Course learning outcomes

  • Formulate and solve engineering problems involving ordinary differential equations and linear systems of equations
  • Solve linear systems of equations
  • Solve first and second order ordinary differential equations and systems of ordinary differential equations
  • Compute and visualise results using computer software
