Course overview

This course aims to develop students' understanding, skills, and knowledge of traffic engineering and transport demand modelling. It will also emphasise the importance of effectively communicating technical materials to high-level decision-makers through the use of industry-standard software as a project-based teaching method.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of traffic engineering and the contextual factors that influence decision-making within the discipline
  • Analyse and assess intersection performance through an understanding of traffic flow theories and the use of relevant software
  • Be able to familiarise with practical experience of the principles and techniques of transport modelling
  • Be able to understand the type of data required to build transport demand models
  • Be develop classic four-step demand models and be able to present the modelling outputs to the wider audience, including decision-makers
