Course overview
This course provides students with approaches to the design of timber elements, connections and frames as well as the design of load bearing masonry and masonry veneers.
- Design using masonry
- Design using timber
- Design practice
Course learning outcomes
- Apply the principles of timber design including the impact of using engineered and mass timbers, and the time-dependent properties that are influenced by environmental conditions.
- Apply the principles of reinforced and unreinforced masonry design for both load bearing masonry and masonry veneers.
- Analyse and design members subjected to the single and combined actions of axial loading, bending and shear by applying relevant Australian Standards
- Describe and evaluate the environmental impact of timber and masonry construction and apply this knowledge to the design of timber and masonry structures.
