Course overview

This course equips students with skills to design steel concrete composites including the design of composite slabs, beams and columns, the design of shear connectors based on the concepts of shear connection and interaction.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the principles of steel concrete composite design, including the impact of differing degrees of shear connection and shear interaction
  • Analyse, design and detail composite slabs and beams subjected to flexure and shear according to AS/NZS 2327
  • Analyse, design and detail composite columns subjected to combined axial, bending and shear according to AS/NZS 2327
  • Design and detail composite slabs and beams to allow for the introduction of openings and service ducts according to AS/NZS 2327
