Course overview

Drawing on skills developed in Reinforced Concrete Design, this course equips students with advanced knowledge of reinforced concrete design including the design of more complex members, design using alternative materials and design using alternative analysis approaches and international design standards.

  • Design practice
  • Experimental investigation

Course learning outcomes

  • Interpret the material properties performance of fibre reinforced polymer bars and fibre reinforced concrete.
  • Analyse and design simple and complex members including those constructed from traditional reinforced concrete and those with fibre reinforcement.
  • Apply the principles of confinement, strut and tie and moment redistribution to the design of elements.
