Course overview

This course will develop the skills necessary to execute research in their discipline of interest in Natural and Built Environments and to prepare a research paper or thesis. Students will conduct a research project in the discipline of interest in Natural and Built Environments under supervision. Students will usually work in groups of 3-4 to refine and execute the research plan they developed in ENGG 4005 Research Theory and Practice to investigate and report on a research topic in their discipline of interest in Natural and Built Environments.

Course learning outcomes

  • Consolidate theoretical knowledge and skills to plan and execute a research-based project.
  • Critically review published literature related to a research topic.
  • Determine, develop and implement the most appropriate research method to investigate a research topic in an ethical manner.
  • Assemble, analyse and synthesize relevant data and information into a convincing argument at an advanced level.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
  • Communicate research outcomes in a manner acceptable to the natural and built environment professions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as a member of a professional team, displaying both team-work skills and autonomy.
