Course overview
To develop knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning approaches which engage secondary students technical, practical (social) and emancipatory (critical) knowledge interests and are evidenced to strengthen their schooling success. It asks the BIG question: How can we enact learning and teaching designs that enhance and personalise ALL secondary students schooling success Through this question, it explores and evaluates diverse forms of integrated learning forms, and builds practical skills in designing learning experiences which integrate multiple and varied disciplinary areas and connect students learning to their peer, social, family and community networks.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically analyse integrated approaches to teaching and learning in secondary and vocational education programs
- Investigate approaches to and examples of integrated teaching and learning in secondary schooling and assess the design of curriculum and pedagogies of practice
- Investigate vocational education as a particular form of integrated learning in the senior years of schooling and examine vocational curriculum designs
- Develop a range of resources and action strategies to build professional capacity to enact integrated teaching and learning designs in secondary and vocational education settings
- Evaluate the value and challenges of integrated teaching and vocational education within secondary curricula
