Course overview
This course prepares students to understand developmental stages in learning to read and to teach reading in the early years settings, utilising a range of methods and approaches including phonics-based learning and meaning making strategies, incorporating multimodalities and catering to diverse learner groups with a range of language backgrounds.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate broad and coherent content knowledge for the teaching of English and literature
- Demonstrate knowledge of planning for socially and culturally inclusive and relevant teaching in English with reference to Australian Curriculum, SACE and/or IB Programs
- Plan developmentally appropriate sequences of learning and assessment with an explicit focus on the senior secondary years
- Critically reflect on the social and cultural impact of literature and texts in subject English
