Course overview

This course introduces the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) learning area through the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum: HASS. The course explores how the subjects of history, geography, civics and citizenship and economics and business build the capacity of young people to make sense of their world and participate as active citizens in their everyday lives and into the future.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the curriculum frameworks that underpin the Humanities and Social Science learning area
  • Knowledge of and skill in planning and sequencing content and tasks so that they become increasingly challenging and incorporate spacing and retrieval practices
  • Use curriculum frameworks and a wide variety of evidence-based teacher resources to plan inclusive learning experiences in Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Effectively select a range of evidence-based assessment practices to evaluate progress, adjust instruction, provide targeted feedback, and support learning
  • Understand and use key Humanities and Social Sciences concepts as they relate to the curriculum frameworks to plan learning experiences that are inclusive of all learners
  • Critique evidence-based resources that support student engagement and learning while highlighting the importance of student questions within the learning area
