Course overview
This course aims to develop an awareness and understanding of the types of disabilities of children and young people in Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary schools and special and inclusive settings, and the impact of these disabilities. It further aims to provide the knowledge, resources and strategies to teach and support children with disabilities in any educational sector or school accommodating their right to inclusive education.

Course learning outcomes
- Identify the need for early identification, intervention and family support for learners with disabilities
- Describe the characteristics of particular disabilities and the awareness of diagnostic strategies relevant to addressing them
- Implement care, curriculum and teaching/program modifications and reasonable adjustments for learners with disabilities in mainstream and special settings
- Critically evaluate the practices which support the successful inclusion of learners with disabilities in school settings
- Discuss the current national and international issues concerning the care and education of children with disabilities through an inclusive and special education lens
