Course overview

This course aims to develop PSTs' capacity to implement integrated, interdisciplinary approaches to science education through engagement with contemporary pedagogical strategies and critical issues in the field. Participants will explore place-based, project-based, inquiry-based, and futures thinking methodologies whilst developing skills in facilitating meaningful scientific discourse and utilising digital technologies to enhance student learning experiences.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explore a variety of integrated and interdisciplinary approaches for addressing complex science education challenges.
  • Select and apply appropriate pedagogical strategies including place-based, project-based, inquiry-based, and futures thinking approaches to science teaching.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate learning sequences that emphasise scientific thinking and investigation.
  • Develop and use a repertoire of communication techniques, including digital technologies, to convey scientific concepts and facilitate student understanding.
  • Facilitate meaningful scientific discourse and collaborative learning experiences that engage all learners with contemporary issues.
