Course overview
To explore diverse experiences and understandings of what it means to be human in the 21st century through engagement with theology, science, philosophy and sociology. To engage with contemporary Catholic theological anthropology in the context of Creation and current threats to the global community of life. The vast 'universe story' sets the foundation for an anthropology based on inter-relationship and mutual responsibility. In response to the story of human 'brokenness', resources for spiritual, ecological and religious healing at the service of the flourishing of life are explored. Practical implications for Catholic education and teaching Religious Education are in focus.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the place and significance of human beings in the contexts of the global community of life, the universe story and Christian theological anthropology
- Analyse key themes of contemporary theology especially the links between ecology, faith and Catholic education
- Examine Catholic responses to contemporary ecological and ethical crises and challenges and their implications for Catholic education
- Evaluate the priority and practice of ecological education, social justice education and ecological conversion in Catholic settings
