Course overview
This course will provide students with foundational knowledge of Arts education - its history, theories, and practices - pertinent to their future roles as secondary school Arts educators in visual arts, drama, and creative arts. This course will include a focus on reflecting on Arts curricula in various forms, particularly the Australian Curriculum, and will engage students with relevant pedagogic strategies, the development of content and sequences of learning, and avenues for assessment and evaluation of practice at an introductory level.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply knowledge in of visual arts, drama, and creative arts education to relevant learning contexts in middle schools
- Plan, teach and reflect on learning experiences for young people in the Arts
- Design and document authentic arts education learning sequences in relation to pertinent curriculum frameworks
- Select and use resources for teaching and learning in the arts
- Critically reflect on Arts practice and pedagogy as developing Arts educators
