Course overview
This course aims to equip students with theoretical understandings and pedagogical strategies needed to teach learners of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD). Students will enhance their understanding of EALD learners and their learning in mainstream classes; develop pedagogical strategies and assessments; and create resources to support EALD students to access and engage with learning areas across the curriculum.
Course learning outcomes
- Analyse the linguistic, cultural and learning needs of linguistically diverse learners
- Analyse the linguistic demands of their teaching context
- Critically investigate an approach to teaching linguistically diverse learners in the context of language acquisition research
- Evaluate and justify the selection of a range of strategies for making learning accessible to linguistically diverse learners
