Course overview

Preservice teachers will undertake practice-led arts workshops focusing on creative processes and pedagogical content leading to a presentation. Reflective documentation will include application to diverse learning contexts with connections to other key learning areas. Approaches to production include critical thinking with pedagogical strategies for inclusion and design thinking. SUGGESTED CHANGE: This course aims to equip pre-service teachers for their future role as an educational leader for children's arts learning, applying knowledge of arts practices and approaches in arts education and undertaking professional engagement with a site to design and implement an arts project.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically reflect on the role and function of the arts as a means of communication for young people in diverse contemporary communities
  • Identify and research traditional and contemporary approaches to production, presentation and audiences within arts curricula
  • Research and develop arts creative processes and practices to produce and present performance, presentation or display for an audience
  • Critically analyse current approaches to technologies for working in the arts in relation to production, presentation and audience
  • Identify cultural knowledge and influences intrinsic to the development and creation of art works
  • Critically reflect on practice as an active arts educator
