Course overview
This course aims to extend students’ basic understandings of Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara language and culture, including pronunciation, grammar, and the cultural context of Anangu communities. Students will develop an increasing understanding of building complexity and meaning in Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara language use.
Course learning outcomes
- Extend language skills and understand increasingly complex grammar in Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara
- Deepen understanding of the significance of Aboriginal languages in Australia and ethical use of and engagement with Aboriginal people and their languages
- Work with Anangu to develop skills as translators and interpreters
