Course overview

This course aims to enhance students confidence and competence in planning, teaching, assessing, reflecting on, and transforming practice in Health and Physical Education (HPE) using the Australian Curriculum. Throughout the course, students will develop a positive learning environment, foster effective teacher-learner relationships, and facilitate safe, engaging, inclusive and success orientated learning experiences for diverse learners. A central focus is the development of teacher professional identity, personal presence, and pedagogical practice to facilitating learning in complex contexts in Health & Physical Education. Additionally, students interact in a professional community and are empowered to transform their practice through a cycle of reflective evaluation.

Course learning outcomes

  • Plan learning sequences by synthesizing information on the diversity of learner needs, contextual constraints, pedagogical content knowledge, assessment and the Australian curriculum (HPE)
  • Apply inclusive, collaborative & dialogic pedagogies when planning for the holistic development of diverse learners in Health and Physical Education
  • Plan and teach lessons aligned with the Australian Curriculum (HPE) that demonstrate safe, engaging, success orientated movement experiences for learners with varying experiences and needs
  • Demonstrate teaching capacities to influence learning by establishing a positive learning environment, interacting with learners in a professional and engaging manner, clearly presenting learning tasks, adopting peripheral positioning to observe learners for safe participation and assessment
  • Reflect and evaluate practice to transform teacher capabilities and progress student learning
