Course overview

To introduce students to the active process of 'doing theology' in the Catholic tradition, in educational settings, through the critical examination of core theological topics that bring contemporary human experience, questions and challenges into personal, communal and global dialogue with this Catholic tradition.

Course learning outcomes

  • Engage in contextual theological reflection, analysis and dialogue through the articulation of questions, discussion and personal interaction with the Catholic theological tradition
  • Analyse contemporary Christology and the ‘person and work’ of Christ; and pedagogical applications
  • Apply Catholic theological perspectives to the pedagogies and priorities of Catholic schools, in the context of critical educational challenges (for example: ecological conversion, Gospel justice, consumerism, human sexuality education)
  • Analyse the development of Christian theologies and language about God in their historical contexts, with a focus on educational implications
