Course overview
Drawing upon national and international education research, this course aims to develop critical understanding and appropriate pedagogical content knowledge to teach Aboriginal students, and to teach all students about Aboriginal histories, cultures, and languages. The core focus is to prepare teachers and leaders to develop knowledge and critical understandings to improve Indigenous students' achievement as required by the Australian Curriculum, Early Years Learning Framework and AITSLs Professional Standards for Teachers 1.4 and 2.4.This course introduces foundational knowledge of First Nations Peoples in Australia, and how their continuing histories, cultures, languages and knowledges inform all learning areas and impact all aspects of Australian life. The course underpins critical learning pathways aimed at addressing social inequity and shaping a positive future for our state, nation and the world. Students will also explore the role of culturally responsive pedagogies in ensuring all learners are visible in the enacted curriculum.
