Course overview

This course will enable students to investigate the process of curriculum development in Health and Physical Education (HPE) with a focus on professional collaboration to design, teach and evaluate an integrated curriculum experience. Students will collaborate and apply the process of curriculum design in Health and Physical Education featuring planning for integration and cross curriculum learning, mapping curriculum experiences and designing authentic assessment strategies. Students will demonstrate leadership in implementation and teaching for multiple perspectives, the application of contemporary curriculum frameworks, designing a rationale for integrated curriculum and advocacy strategies to influencing curriculum processes. Students will demonstrate higher order teaching capabilities and engage in deeper levels of reflective evaluation around professional issues in leadership, teaching for effective learning and integrated curriculum experiences.

Course learning outcomes

  • Collaborate proactively in a professional teaching team to research and design an innovative learning plan that is an integral part of a multi-dimensional curriculum developed for a coastal aquatic camp
  • Apply a contemporary curriculum framework in the planning documentation and work from an integrated perspective to create learning environments that feature cross curricular capabilities and diverse equity perspectives
  • Demonstrate leadership in the implementation of the learning plan and cooperation with colleagues to ensure coherence within the proposed curriculum program.
  • Engage as a professional teaching team in the comprehensive evaluation of the learning experience from multiple perspectives including inclusivity, alignment, progression, engagement and the specifics of integration
  • Work independently through a personalised professional development cycle for improving teaching capabilities based on self assessment and including feedback from a professional mentor
  • Apply knowledge and skills to prepare a rationale and advocacy plan, using ICT's, for the inclusion of an integrated camp as an integral part of the curriculum in a middle school context
