Course overview
This course offers an introduction to both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, delving into theoretical perspectives and practical methods. The primary focus is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to discern the appropriateness of various basic qualitative and quantitative techniques and apply these to the collection and analysis of research data. Through critical examination, students will gain the ability to evaluate the relevance of these approaches in designing their own research endeavours. The course is divided into two halves with the first focusing on quantitative methodologies and the second on qualitative methodologies.

Course learning outcomes
- Understand the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research.
- Determine appropriate qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches in relation to specific educational problems.
- Demonstrate competency in collecting, organising and analysing both qualitative and quantitative data.
- Present and discuss the findings of qualitative and quantitative research to different audiences in a variety of formats.
