Course overview

This course will provide preservice teachers with knowledge of curriculum content, pedagogical approaches and practices in the areas of Technologies and the Arts (Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts) relevant for Learners (Reception - year 6) and to actively and critically study the Arts and Technologies, and their application as curriculum content within educational environments. Preservice teachers will engage with a cross-disciplinary approach to learning Technologies and the Arts (Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts), develop their existing knowledge, skills and understanding of Technologies and the Arts National curriculum frameworks and professional standards, learn about a range of subject specific pedagogies and apply these to planning for the development of their design and creative thinking, and technical capabilities.

  • Outline critical perspectives on design, technology and arts-based creative pedagogies
  • Critically analyse and apply current Australian and International Arts and Technologies curriculum content and material
  • Plan, implement and document authentic Arts and Technologies learning experiences
  • Illustrate a critical understanding of inclusive practices and Aboriginal perspectives in the Arts and Technologies curricula
  • Illustrate a critical understanding of disciplinary literacy and numeracy concepts integrated within the course
