Course overview
This course will develop a specialist identity as a teacher, and the capacity to theorise about TESOL practice in critical and systematic ways. Students will observe, reflect on, critically evaluate and design an Inquiry Question on the teaching and learning practice within a specific context. Students will closely examine the teaching practices, classroom dynamics; gather meaningful information, formulate a focused question for further investigation and conduct a literature review. Students will adopt a systematic approach to identify strengths and aspects that can be improved in a lesson; essential for effective teaching, learning and continuous improvement.
Course learning outcomes
- Identify, assess and respond to learner diversity, needs and interests in planned, coherent and appropriate ways
- Reflect on TESOL practice in terms of: actions; practical and theoretical reasons for actions; and ethical justification of actions
- Use a curriculum framework as a basis for course design
- Collaborate critically with colleagues in the planning of TESOL programs and practices
- Prepare documentation which reflects their professional philosophy as a critically reflective practitioner
- Demonstrate highly developed competencies in TESOL as defined by the professional requirements for particular educational sectors
