Course overview
In this course, preservice teachers will evaluate integrated learning approaches suitable for use in middle to senior years and investigate the ways in which integrated teaching is applied within vocational education programs in secondary schools. Preservice teachers will explore and critically appraise contemporary developments in integrated learning and teaching, and how these can be applied to deliver secondary curriculum and vocational education. Preservice teachers will investigate the pedagogical approach and design features of integrated teaching, and how it generates diverse learning communities and opportunities within and beyond school sites. Preservice teachers will review how integrated teaching approaches inform and structure vocational education programs, exploring student engagement, benefits and challenges.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically analyse integrated approaches to teaching and learning in secondary curricula and vocational education programs
- Investigate approaches to integrated teaching and learning in secondary schooling and assess the design of the curriculum and pedagogies of practice
- Investigate vocational education in the senior years of schooling and assess the design of the curriculum and pedagogies of practice
- Develop a range of resources and action strategies to build professional capacity to support integrated teaching and learning, and vocational education in secondary settings
- Evaluate the value and challenges of integrated teaching and vocational education within secondary curricula
