Course overview

This course will examine curricular frameworks within the context of the framework's organising body and to investigate its application through the Humanities and Social Sciences specialisations in senior secondary school settings. Students will examine the context, design and implementation of Humanities and Social Sciences' senior school specialisation(s) and learning in a 'real-life' workplace context, tracking curriculum from a senior school curriculum authority (e.g. the SACE Board) conceptualisation to the actualities of school implementation and classroom practice.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe and explain a Humanities and Social Sciences curricular and syllabus framework and associated documents as they apply to a particular specialisation in an upper secondary school context
  • Identify and analyse the factors to be considered in the design, planning and implementation of a Humanities and Social Sciences specialisation within the context of a senior secondary curriculum framework
  • Apply skills of observation, reflection and critical analysis to a curricular framework and its application in context
  • Design a professional teaching plan for a Humanities and Social Sciences specialisation
  • Critically analyse curriculum and syllabus issues relevant to a Humanities and Social Sciences specialisation
