Course overview
This course will introduce preservice arts educators (generalist or specialist) to practice-based research in arts education as a component of professional learning through a student-led collaborative process of inquiry. Students will reflect on knowledge, skills, and understanding in arts education as a component of professional learning with reference to AITSL standards. Students will review arts education with a critical analysis and engagement with problem solving skills through Design Thinking (DT) and Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) inherent in arts education (practice, curriculum, pedagogy, policy). Students will develop expertise for future delivery of collaborative, transdisciplinary learning opportunities for educational contexts.
Course learning outcomes
- Investigate current DT, IBL and creative thinking in arts educational practice; students as shapers of knowledge
- Apply knowledge of DT, IBL and creative thinking to foster an ability to function as an effective problem solver, capable of applying logical, critical, and creative thinking to a range of problems within an interdisciplinary collaboration
- Provide the opportunity to work in partnership to showcase DT, IBL and Creative Thinking processes and outcomes.
- Engage with stakeholders through active and critical analysis of a project.
- Extend students' educational and professional capabilities with a diversity of learning experiences, methodology, application of knowledge fostering self-efficacy, engaging within a community of practice.
