Course overview
This course will develop preservice teachers who are confident and competent to plan, assess and teach science and mathematics across the primary years of schooling building a strong disciplinary approach towards incorporating connected, interdisciplinary, differentiated curriculum. Preservice teachers will examine research informed teaching approaches that support school students' learning of science and mathematics. Preservice teachers will develop science and mathematics units of work and explore integration. The units will also incorporate the use of digital technologies and cater for individual needs based on the Australian Curriculum for Mathematics and Science including the general capabilities. Preservice teachers will critique assessment strategies, with an emphasis on summative assessment.

- Critique a range of teaching approaches to support primary students' understanding of science and mathematics
- Critically evaluate and apply a recognised curriculum for planning and assessment
- Design a sequence of integrated science and mathematics learning activities which take into account individual needs of students
- Design two units of work taking into account research on children's learning in science and mathematics
- Implement and critique the use of digital technologies in the planning, teaching and evaluation of mathematics and science learning experiences
- Evaluate resources available to support teachers and learners of mathematics and science
