This course aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and professional skills to become leaders in the area of English medium instruction across diverse educational contexts.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the foundations of EMI – its features, contextual variations and theoretical frameworks – and use this knowledge to analyse a specific EMI setting of choice, as a basis for potential pedagogical response
  • Investigate the nature of academic and disciplinary literacy and the linguistic dimensions of learning content through English in a particular discipline, to enable development of relevant support strategies and resources for teaching and learning
  • Apply distinctive features of EMI teaching and learning expertise to design a teaching unit, using evidence-based approaches to achieve effective pedagogical and assessment strategies
  • Develop and implement procedures and criteria for the effective management and delivery of EMI courses and programs, including professional development involving intercultural, linguistic and pedagogic competences
