Course overview

To critically engage practicing educators in examining theories of literacy with a focus on learner-text interactions and their application to contemporary teaching across sites and contexts.

Course learning outcomes

  • Engage with relevant theories which articulate the role of texts in literacy learning and teaching
  • Analyse the impact of diverse social and cultural contexts on text conventions, production methods and skill acquisition
  • Acquire skills in text analysis and apply these to texts drawn from a range of contexts
  • Consider how the literacy teaching program might address challenges to developing text decoding, analysis and production skill
  • Critically analyse current professional contexts in terms of their support for practitioners and learners in building textual repertoires
