Course overview

To advance students' cognitive and communication skills to be able transmit knowledge and ideas to others about the meaning and scope of Sharia (dealing with law, ethics, morals, and spirituality), and to provide them with a deeper understanding of the extent to which Sharia can operate in the world today.

Course learning outcomes

  • Understand the meaning, nature and origin of Sharia
  • Be familiar with the primary and secondary sources of the foundations of Islamic teachings and practices
  • Gain an understanding of the complexity of Sharia and its application in everyday life
  • Develop the capacity to solve problems, including through the collection and evaluation of information
  • Communicate knowledge of Islamic studies intelligibly and economically, with confidence in self-expression, both written and oral
  • Understand social, political, historical and cultural contexts, and demonstrate an international awareness and openness to the world
