Course overview
To advance students' cognitive and communication skills to be able transmit knowledge and ideas to others about the meaning and scope of Sharia (dealing with law, ethics, morals, and spirituality), and to provide them with a deeper understanding of the extent to which Sharia can operate in the world today.
Course learning outcomes
- Understand the meaning, nature and origin of Sharia
- Be familiar with the primary and secondary sources of the foundations of Islamic teachings and practices
- Gain an understanding of the complexity of Sharia and its application in everyday life
- Develop the capacity to solve problems, including through the collection and evaluation of information
- Communicate knowledge of Islamic studies intelligibly and economically, with confidence in self-expression, both written and oral
- Understand social, political, historical and cultural contexts, and demonstrate an international awareness and openness to the world

If you are continuing in a program you commenced prior to 1 January 2021, or are commencing an Honours degree relating to an undergraduate degree you commenced prior to 1 January 2021, you may be charged a different Student Contribution amount from the amount displayed below. Please check the Student Contribution bands for continuing students here. If you are an international student, or a domestic student studying in a full fee paying place, and are continuing study that you commenced in 2025 or earlier, your fees will be available here before enrolments open for 2026.
