Course overview

This course will extend preservice teachers' capacity to plan for and implement student centred sequences of learning experiences in secondary mathematics. This course develops preservice teachers' capacity to plan sequences of learning and assessment in mathematics that supports participation and learning of all students; integrate digital technologies as appropriate; and to use student thinking to inform teacher practice.

Course learning outcomes

  • Effectively plan, implement, and evaluate sequences of learning in mathematics that support the participation and learning of all students.
  • Select and critique appropriate digital technologies for supporting student conceptual understanding in mathematics.
  • Effectively plan for eliciting and using evidence of student thinking to inform teacher practice.
  • Develop, select, and use a range of assessment strategies that supports the development of conceptual understanding in mathematics.
  • Apply skills of lesson observation and analysis, with a particular focus on student responses.
  • Critically reflect on personal growth and development as a teacher of mathematics.
