Course overview
This course will develop preservice teachers' capacities in planning programs in either the context of Language Education or TESOL which are based on a sound analysis and evaluation of the information of the designated context and which include the application of a range of methods and technologies appropriate for the target context. Preservice teachers will develop knowledge to undertake curriculum design, long and short-term planning on the basis of a sound analysis of the relationship between policy and curriculum. They will select, adapt and create resources, and design learner assessment and program evaluation to address the needs identified in the target language teaching context of languages program development in either Languages Education or TESOL.
Course learning outcomes
- Identify and discuss critical issues related to languages education policy and practice from multiple perspectives
- Explain the role of context in program development
- Apply and justify processes of program design for culturally and linguistically diverse learners
- Apply principles of intercultural language learning in planning, teaching and assessing
- Compare and use a range of techniques for gathering and reflecting on evidence of student learning
